Banff

What a great knit.  I never thought I would make him, but I am.  I have the back completed, cast on for the front and right in the thick of the ribbing.  It is actually an enjoyable sweater to make and I am hoping he ends up on the finished projects page and not the When Things Go Wrong page.  It might be too early to tell, but his home will be on the former page.  Oh, I better not get too optimistic or the knitting gods may rain on my parade.

SnB at the Naked Sheep was pretty small.  Only Elizabeth, Sandra, Tanya, Sasha and Julie (both Blogless) made it.  I wonder where Katherine, Trisha, Brenda and Corrie were?  Maybe they will tell us next time.

Have a good one.

SnB Tonight - The Naked Sheep

Had enough of this title yet? Well, I'm not going to stop until all knitters in Toronto are at The Naked Sheep on Wednesday nights to knit with ME!

Will I see you there?

PS:  thanks everyone on your nice comments on Klaralund.  Makes me feel pretty warm and fuzzy....

Here she is, Miss Klaralund...

Sorry for the blur...We tried, but you get the picture.

Another front - I've received these this and this.  The first one is okay - I would not have bought had it not been part of the set from Crafters Choice.  So, I might be offering it for a trade sometime in the near future, if anyone wants it and has something I like they don’t, email and let me know.

The second one is not bad at all.  Not sure how many gifts I would make, but I'm sure I would make some stuff for me.

Any new knitting you ask?  Why yes, my dearies, I've started  Banff, in Lion Brand Jiffy, colour - smoky grey.  Why? I need a sweater that I can throw on, keeps me warm and I really don't care what happens to it, as it was pretty inexpensive to make.  I wouldn't wear Klaralund to the park, camping or going on hikes, but Banff is different - he, yeah that's right, I'm calling Banff a He - because He will be for rough and tumble days...Not dainty like Klaralund.

That's all folks - have a good knitting day...It is Monday after all, you should have something to look forward to.

Rush, Rush, Rush

When you rush, all things that could go wrong, DO. I believe I'm a pretty good sock knitter. I don't have to look at the pattern anymore, except when I turn the heel. I'm not sure why I can't remember how many to knit, then SSK, but I can't. But as you know, I am on the second sock, trying to get it done soon, so my daughter can wear them.  It is very cold here, and she spends alot of time outside on the playground at school, so I'm rushing to finish. But I totally screwed up on the heel turning point and have all these dropped stitches.  So I have to spend a good amount of time performing some surgery on the sock during  my lunch hour.  So instead of finishing the heel (I just typed hell and corrected it - Freudian slip or what?) I have to fix the mistakes, and turn the heel (man, I just did it again, I typed hell), so I probably do not have enough time to pick up stitches and start decreasing the instep section of the sock.

But tonight is SnB at The Naked Sheep, the sock will be my companion - will she get it done?  You betcha.  Darling J wants it, and she wants it SOON. Wish me luck.

See you at The Naked Sheep tonight.

I'm waiting for sunshine...

To take a picture of Klaralund. It is cold and very grey in Toronto in the last couple of days.  But on the knitting front, there really is not much happening. I finally started the second sock for my older daughter, so I'm sticking to that until it is done.  Remember - I've got that - one project at a time rule.  Let's see how long it lasts.  Socks really aren't projects, so starting something bigger is okay, right?  right?  RIGHT!

Because of the cold weather, sock knitting is all I want to do anyway.  I love knitted socks. They are warm and comfortable and don't make your feet sweat. Most people in my family want me to make them more.  Unfortunately, they do take time, especially on 2.5mm wooden needles.  But, oh boy, are they a joy to knit. I'm not sure why the addiction, but I know I'm not the only one out there who has the sock knitting bug.  If you have never made a pair, buy yourself some self-striping sock yarn (I like Regia the best), double pointed needles, get a pattern and get going.  They are easy and portable, and the self-striping pattern keeps you from becoming bored.

So, this blog will probably be sock knitting central for the next little while.  BTW - anyone going to the SnB at the Naked Sheep tomorrow night?  If not and you live in Toronto or are visiting here - come by - you will LOVE the store, the ladies and all the nice goodies Lorena gives us.

Hope to see you there.

Oh Did I Forget To Mention?

I have finished Klaralund. Wow - I love this sweater. It is a tad big, but that is okay, I guess that is what I wanted. I love it. I will take pictures of it, as we have our camera back from the shop. And just in time!

I sewed the arms to the front and back using backstitch, and the side and sleeve seams I used the mattress stitch. Pretty easy. Used 5mm needles and 8 balls of yarn. I can not believe I didn't need to add this knit to the When Things Go Wrong page. Whew.

I'm wearing Klaralund tonight to the Naked Sheep's opening party. Pretty approriate, considering I bought the yarn there. I must say, what a great sweater, considering two things - it took about a week and a half to knit/sew and how much I complained about this yarn. I take it back. Well, most of the complaints anyway.

What's next on the horizon? Well - I've decided to sell my lacy skull hat pattern, starting at the Naked Sheep. So, working on making the pattern all nice and pretty, taking pictures of the hat, and making one for the display. That's it. I feel pretty worn out with Klaralund, the ponchos, and scarves I've made. I think I need a breather.

Anyone else feel this way, when so much knitting is done? Do you need a breather between projects? Let me know - I'm curious.

I Love the Naked Sheep Store

Why? Great owner, great selection, big store with lots of room to look, knit and walk around without bumping into everything and everyone.  Oh, and one last thing, the ladies that come on Wednesday nights for stitch n'bitches - EXCELLENTO!  I never want to leave that store, but at 9:30pm, I guess I kind of have to. No, I do have one more thing - I called Lorena today at the store to see if this she had this book to make this.  My older daughter will love this sweater, I'm sure I will have to pry it off of her.  Thanks to Swim, who is making this for her daughter.

Did Lorena have it? No, will she get it for me? Yes and when? Saturday - 2 days from now. Wow. How great is she? The best yarn pusher in town.

On the Klaralund front - all 4 pieces are knit.  Two blocked, two more to block.  Then I'm having a seaming party.  I've laid out the pieces to look like it is put together, and after all my bitching and complaining about the yarn and how boring this knit was, I think, I really think I'm going to like this puppy. but, there is one finally step that needs to be done and then I can truly comment.  Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me.

Pictures - yeah...

here are the scarves (Thanks Sandra for taking the picture for me) and one of the hats I'm hoping to sell at my friend's work in November. Not alot of items, but I wanted to see if they would sell. If they sell - great, if not, I've got Christmas gifts, and if I am feeling greedy, new scarves for me! So, without further ado...

An update on Klaralund - the 2nd sleeve is half way done, with only 1 and 1/2 balls left to the finish line. I really DON'T LIKE knitting with this yarn. There are too many knots, the 7th ball was so thin, and I had 18 stitches per 4", vs. 16 for the rest of the sweater. What gives? You would think, at 13.00 a ball + 15% taxes (you heard me correctly - 15% - The price to live in Canada), it would be pretty darn close to perfect. But nooooooo, I had to do more surgery with this yarn than any other I’ve knit with. Go figure. Also, there are more twigs in this yarn, than I care to shake a stick at. No pun intended.

Thankfully, the Russian Join technique worked like a charm - I have no ends to weave in! I'm so happy I learned this technique, plus, Dani also shared another little trick with me when joining mohair/wool yarns. Once the Russian Join is complete, lick both your palms (like the baseball players do), put the joined yarn on one palm, and rub the hell out of it with your second palm. Once your palms are dry and feel nice and hot, you are done! Can't get any better than that. It is a bit gross, but hey, look at all the time you will save at the end.

There you have it folks, a picture, an update and some advice. Have a good one.

Okay - 3 done, 1 to go.

Yeah - Klaralund is coming along nicely.  I;ve got three pieces waiting to be blocked, which the front and the back will be blocked tonight. The second sleeve has been started, and I"m almost at the stockinette part.  Man, the only thing exciting about this sweater is knowing, when one ball ends and another begins, I have less balls left. I can't believe I;m going to say this - but I think the seaming of this sweater will be more exciting than the knitting of it.  I guess I'll put this to the test by the end of the week when I put the pieces together.

SnB at the Naked Sheep tomorrow - anyone going? I am - and I hope to see you there!

2 Done - 2 to Go!

With Klaralund that is. What an extremely fast knit this is. I can not believe it. It is kind of boring though, and the only thing that is keeping it exciting is the seeing the different colours as I knit. I am looking forward to knitting the sleeves, as they have a bit of variation in them.

I started the one project at a time rule, and you know, it really works for me. I get stuff finished and don't have so many projects sitting all over the house waiting to be finished. I also don't feel overwhelmed. Except when I open my closet where my stash is and think of all the projects I can do after I finish whatever I'm working on. So either way, I am always thinking about knitting. Finishing what's on the needles, and the what will be on my needles next. Such as life. (Big sigh here!)

Have a great weekend.
